Aimee & Dakota's Engagement Session at Dogwood Park in Cookeville, Tennessee

Some engagement sessions just feel easy from the very beginning, and that was exactly the case with Aimee and Dakota.

We met at Dogwood Park in downtown Cookeville for their engagement session, and it ended up being one of those evenings where everything came together perfectly. The weather was beautiful, the park was full of color, and most importantly, these two were completely comfortable being themselves. There were even potential thunderstorms that never arrived!

One of the reasons I love Dogwood Park for engagement sessions is that it offers so much variety without having to travel from location to location. Within just a short walk, you have beautiful landscaping, winding sidewalks, mature trees, water features, and some really unique architecture that creates a perfect backdrop for photos. You also get a tiny downtown vibe just across the street.

As we explored the park, we stopped near the amphitheater, which always adds a little character and dimension to a gallery. The curved stonework and open space create a timeless look while still feeling relaxed and natural.

One of my favorite parts of the evening was Dakota grabbing the ONLY magnolia bloom branch and holding it down for us to do the ring shots. There's just something about magnolia blossoms that feels romantic and timeless, especially during engagement season.

The winding sidewalks throughout Dogwood Park gave us the perfect opportunity to simply walk and talk. Some of my favorite images often happen during these moments when couples aren't focused on the camera at all. They're laughing, talking about wedding plans, or just enjoying being together.

Those are usually the photos that end up meaning the most.

We also spent some time near the fountain, which is one of the signature features of the park. The sound of the water, the surrounding greenery, and the soft evening light created such a peaceful atmosphere. It felt like the perfect place to slow down and capture some of the quieter moments between them.

One thing I loved about Aimee and Dakota is how naturally they interacted with one another. There wasn't any pressure to perform or create moments that weren't real. They simply enjoyed being together, and honestly, that's what makes for the best engagement photos every single time.

Engagement sessions aren't about perfectly posed images. They're about documenting a season of life you'll never get back. The excitement of planning a wedding, dreaming about the future, and preparing to start a new chapter together.

Dogwood Park provided the perfect backdrop for all of it.

From the blooming magnolias and winding pathways to the amphitheater and fountain, every corner of the park offered something unique while still keeping the focus where it belonged—on Aimee and Dakota.

Aimee and Dakota, thank you for spending the evening with me and allowing me to document this exciting season of your lives. I loved getting to know you both better and hearing more about your wedding plans. If your wedding day is anything like your engagement session, it's going to be absolutely beautiful.

I can't wait to celebrate with you both soon.

If you're looking for a Cookeville engagement session location, Dogwood Park is easily one of my favorites. Between the beautiful landscaping, seasonal blooms, amphitheater, fountain, and charming walkways, it offers so much variety while keeping everything conveniently located in the heart of downtown Cookeville.
